Club members of the Pacific Northwest Wood Artisans found a way to honor veterans physically and mentally.
The group handcrafted 19 canes for local wounded veterans this past month, which they presented Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Sequim Veterans of Foreign War Post 4760.
“The effort put into these was nothing compared to what all you have done for us,” Pacific NW Wood Artisan Eric Furman said.
The club has made canes for veterans before but this was the first time the VFW and artisans have partnered.
“When they approached us, I didn’t know what to think,” said Carl Bradshaw, VFW post service member and Army and Navy veteran.
“It means a lot that the community got together and shows their appreciation like this.”
Those receiving canes served during World War II, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf and Korean War eras.
“A lot of the times we are overlooked but this really made my day,” said John Spriggs, VFW post service member and marine.
Most veterans said they intend to use the canes in their daily activities.
