Six Tax-Aide sites in Clallam and Jefferson counties are scheduled to open Feb. 1. Fully trained and certified volunteers will assist senior and low- and moderate-income taxpayers with preparation of their 2009 tax returns. All assistance and electronic filing is free to the taxpayer. Most sites require appointments. The Tax-Aide program is sponsored by AARP and the IRS.
What to bring
Taxpayers should bring the following with them to the Tax-Aide site.
_ W-2s, 1099s and documents necessary for 2009 return
_ Copy of previous year's return
_ Evidence of real estate taxes paid in 2009
_ If new vehicle purchased 2009, evidence of vehicle price and sales taxes paid
_ Evidence of energy efficient improvements to an existing home, if applicable
_ If first-time homebuyer in 2009, evidence of purchase (closing statement)
_ Photo ID and Social Security card for themselves and dependents
Note: If a taxpayer had a foreclosure or deed in lieu of foreclosure transaction during 2009, bring applicable documents as these transactions may require disclosure on the taxpayer's federal income tax return.
