“Living Well With Chronic Conditions” a free six-week workshop series, begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, and continues on Wednesdays through April 7. The 2½-hour sessions are in the Community Conference Room on the second floor at Olympic Medical Center, 840 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.

The series is hosted by WOW! Working on Wellness, the health education program of Dungeness Valley Health & Wellness Clinic.

The series was designed by Stanford University’s Chronic Disease Self-Management Program and will be taught by local Stanford-trained facilitators Bob Boardman and Diane Clementi.

The goal is to teach practical skills to help people manage the symptoms and emotional distress associated with long-term illnesses or chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, chronic pain or arthritis. It offers techniques to lessen stress, frustration and fatigue.

Each participant will have access to the companion book “Living Well With Chronic Conditions.”

Research has shown that program participants feel better, are less limited by their illnesses and may spend less time at the doctor or in the hospital. Participants also report enhanced ability managing their symptoms and communicating with their doctors and loved ones.

Space is limited, so early reservations are encouraged. To register or for more information, call 538-2457 or 866-582-1487.

The series is made possible through funding by the Washington Department of Health, the Olympic Area Agency on Aging and the National Council on Aging.
