Ritchie honored

Senior chief aviation maintenance technician Matthew Ritchie was recognized April 27 as the 54th annual Excel-lence in Federal Government, Supervisor/Manager of the Year by the Honolulu Federal Executive Board.

As HC-130H maintenance chief Air Station Barbers Point, Hawaii, he directed maintenance for four aircraft and 90 enlisted members, supporting 3,267 flight hours covering 12.2 million square miles, the Coast Guard's largest area of responsibility.

Major operational events include prolonged American Samoa tsunami relief in September 2009. Superior maintenance foresight, management and supervision of 180,000 labor hours spread among four maintenance shifts resulted in an individual aircraft availability rate of 72.4 percent (exceeding Coast Guard target rate of 71 percent) while overcoming significant logistical issues in the isolated 14th Coast Guard District.

Ritchie is the son of Art and Evelyn J. Ritchie of

Sequim.



Completes training

Air Force Airman 1st Class Colin P. Haenel graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Haenel is the son of Alicia Haenel of

Sequim.

He is a 2007 graduate of Sequim High School.



Coast Guard graduate

Coast Guard Seaman Recruit Timothy S. Clark, son of Paula and Sean Clark of Sequim, recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J.

During the eight-week training program, Clark completed a vigorous training curriculum consisting of academics and practical instruction on water safety and survival, military customs and courtesies, seamanship skills, first aid, fire fighting and marksmanship. Clark is a 2009 graduate of Sequim High School.



Now a Marine

Brandon Michael Carter achieved the rank of private with the United States Marine Corps.

A graduate of Sequim High School, he is the son of Dave and Ann Holgerson and Mike and Loudene Carter.
