Sequim's two state softball squads survived loser-out games at the Washington State Little League softball playoffs Monday night.

Sequim juniors (13- and 14-year-olds) topped Battle Ground 6-1 in Vancouver, Wash. Makayla Bentz pitched four solid innings and got good relief from Olivia Kirsch. The team got solid defensive plays from MaryLu Clift and Hannah Grubb.

The team moves on to play tonight at 8 p.m. tonight against Northeast/District VIII (Snohomish/Woodinville area) in the consolation bracket semifinals.

The winner of that game plays Wednesday at 6 p.m. against the loser of the championship bracket semifinal pitting Columbia against Stilly Valley; the loser of the game finishes fourth at state.

In the 10- and 11-year-olds tourney in Yacolt, Sequim’s all-stars posted a dramatic 8-7 win against Kent/Auburn on Monday evening to advance in the consolation bracket.

Down 5-0 earlier in the game, Sequim chipped away to get within one (7-6) in the bottom of the sixth inning. With two outs, Sequim got a two-run single from Allysen Montelius. Jordan Bentz scored the winning run after she was caught in a rundown between third base and home plate.

Sequim’s 10s and 11s get a chance for revenge as they play Everett, the team that topped Sequim 10-0 in the opening round, at 6 p.m. tonight.

The winner of that game plays the loser of the championship bracket semifinal of Kirkland vs. Woodinville West Wednesday night at 6 p.m.; the loser finishes fourth at state.
