Fiber artists gather for exhibits, workshops

The North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival celebrates its fifth year in 2010.

The interactive, educational fiber-arts-community event is held on the first weekend each October in Sequim.

Oct. 1-3, the festival includes the juried fiber-arts exhibit, demonstrations, fiber-arts market, workshops and a wearable art show. For more information, visit www.fiberartsfestival.org.

The festival is co-sponsored by the Museum and Arts Center in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley and North Olympic Shuttle and Spindle Guild.



Friday, Oct. 1

Art exhibition opening: "Your daily fiber - conspicuous consumption, community & ceremony." 5-8 p.m. at the Museum and Arts Center, 175 W. Cedar St., Sequim.

The exhibit is on display through Oct. 30. MAC is open 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday. It is hosted and sponsored by the Museum and Arts Center and the North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival.

The exhibited works highlight the everyday interaction humans have with fiber. People can define their worth by textiles and fiber-arts creations, displaying abundance and habitual acquisition. Collaborative fiber-arts projects can fuse charity and a sense of belonging. Fiber use in cultural traditions creates bonds of memories and hopes.

Featured artists are: Carolyn Abbott, Beverly Beighle, Renne Emiko Brock-Richmond, Betty Cook, Roberta Cooper, Lois Dunn, Denise Erickson, Liisa Fagerlund, Lindy Feigenbutz, Susanne Foster, Mary Gilberg, Marlien Hennen, Barbara Houshmand, Mary Hubbard, Susan Kroll, Patty Lampley, Julie Malone, Susanne McCoy, Sherry Nagel, Kitty Niles, Sue Nylander, Pat Oden, Sharle Osborne, Mary Jeanne Richards, Rebecca Roush, Merrie Jo Schroeder, Jean Sigmar, Gloria Skovronsky, Mark Smith, Nina Stevens, Peggy St. George, Stephanie Swensson, John Teichert, Marilyn Walsh, Laurie Williams, Cyndi Wolfe and Jean Wyatt.



Saturday, Oct. 2

Fiber arts extravaganza at Sequim Middle School, 301 W. Hendrickson Road, Sequim. Open 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

The fiber-arts market spotlights local artists' work and fiber supplies. Demonstrations for all ages showcase fiber processes and hands-on projects with information about local fiber activities, groups and instructional resources.

The wearable art show highlights fashion and fiber.



Sunday, Oct. 3
