Undersheriff Ron Peregrin and Lorraine Shore, community policing services coordinator, hold a donation box for the 911 Cell Phone Bank program.

The 911 Cell Phone Bank program provides free cell phones to senior citizens, individuals who live alone or victims of domestic violence or other violent crimes who may have no way of contacting 9-1-1 for an emergency.

Anyone with old, no longer used cell phones may turn them in at a designated drop-off location. Bring any cases, chargers or extra batteries. The phones are shipped to the 911 Cell Phone Bank for reconditioning. In return, the Sheriff's Office is sent a supply of like-new cell phones to distribute free. The phones only call 9-1-1 and work anywhere in Clallam County.

The program is an initiative of the Charitable Recycling Foundation. Contributions are tax deductible.

Used cell phones and accessories can be dropped off at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.; SunLand Golf & Country Club, 135 Fairway Drive; Clallam County Sheriff's Office, 223 E. Fourth St., Suite 12, Port Angeles; or Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles.
