Sequim High School science students recently learned how the city of Sequim processes waste water.

Al Chrisman, chief operator of the city's Water Reclamation Facility, gave presentations to 250 high school students at the school library on Nov. 3. On Nov. 5, 9 and 10, Chrisman and his staff gave tours of the newly expanded Water Reclamation Facility and the Water Reuse Demonstration Park.

Students learned how nature deals with pollution in water and how the city's reclamation facility processes wastewater faster.

"This is a great way to educate our young adults, enabling them to make educated decisions and showing them some of the career opportunities that exist in utility services," said Pete Tjemsland, city of Sequim utilities manager.

The city's utility department and science teacher Dave Ketter worked together to coordinate the project and a grant paid for student bus transportation.
