High winds up to 39 mph on the east end of Clallam County caused power outages from Diamond Point to Carlsborg Monday night.

Michael Howe, executive communications coordinator for Clallam County PUD, said the high winds began about 8 p.m., causing isolated outages in Blyn and Diamond Point.

A fallen tree caused a breaker to go around 9:35 a.m. at the Bonneville Power Administration’s  Happy Valley substation, which supplies five substations across Sequim.

PUD crews restored power to core businesses and northern residences just before 11 p.m. and most of Sequim by 2:02 a.m., Howe said.

A Washington State Department of Transportation representative reported that a tree went down west of Blyn near U.S. Highway milepost 271, taking down power lines.

That incident took out power from the Blyn substation that feeds Sequim and closed the eastbound lane of the highway. Two-way traffic was restored at 10:20 p.m.

Steve Vogel, fire chief for Clallam County Fire District 3, said during the outage fire crews received a few calls for oxygen due to tank reserves running out and inquiries on why the power was out and when it would be restored.

Sequim Police officers discovered two burglaries — at 11:25 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at The Tattoo Guy, 618 E. Washington St.; and at 6:49 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at The Buzz Coffee Shop, 128 N. Sequim Ave.

A break-in at 10:51 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at Cole’s Jewelers, 117 E. Washington St., was reported when someone heard an alarm. Officers found no damage or trace of entry into the building.

Three suspects caught

At the tattoo shop, a passerby reported seeing three males break into the business.

Officers arrived within minutes and found two males outside the back of the business; both attempted to flee on foot.

A 17-year old juvenile surrendered after being cornered behind the business and was taken into custody by Officer Chris Wright and Police Chief Bill Dickinson.

Jordan Hartman, 19, ran southbound from the business and was apprehended by Sequim Police K-9 Chase and Officer Mike Hill.

Hartman was booked into the Clallam County jail on charges of second degree burglary, second degree theft and second degree malicious mischief. The juvenile male was booked into the Clallam County Youth Center on the same charges.

At 1:23 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, Hartman was arrested and booked into Clallam County jail on suspicion of burglary and theft in connection with the Monday night burglary of the Buzz Coffee Shop.  The shop sustained extensive damage to the exterior glass doors, interior glass display cases and interior window and wall.  

Sequim Police arrested third suspect Tyler Townsend, 19, of Sequim, on suspicion of burglary Tuesday night on the 300 block of South Sunnyside Avenue after he allegedly confessed to the Tattoo Guy burglary.
Officers obtained a search warrant for Townsend’s house and found property reported stolen from the burglary along with marijuana, police said.

Townsend was booked into Clallam County jail on suspicion of burglary, theft and malicious mischief.
