Clallam County Fair royalty contestants vie for three spots

The Clallam County Fair royalty contestants braved the temperatures Saturday, Jan. 26, to benefit the animals at the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society by soliciting donations of pet food. For 2011, the Clallam County Fair royalty contestants are Katelyn Noard, Brianna Gilbeck, Brooklyn Bauer and Ruby Jackson.

Christine Paulsen, royalty coordinator, said only three will be selected on April 16 at the royalty tea to represent the fair at various events and during the fair, Aug. 18-21.

• Noard, the daughter of Richard and Wendy Noard of Port Angeles, is a 16-year-old junior at Port Angeles High School. Her sponsor is Rygaard Logging Inc. She is involved in the swimming and diving team, gymnastics, track & field and the high school’s Naval Junior Reserve Training Corps. Her plans are to attend a four-year university and earn a master’s degree in secondary education.

• Gilbeck is an 18-year-old senior at PAHS; her parents are Gary and Josie Gilbeck of Port Angeles. She is sponsored by Sickk Tees. Gilbeck has been involved in Lambchops 4-H Club in the swine program and serves as the club’s vice president. She participates in Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and volunteers with the Port Angeles Food Bank. Gilbeck will graduate in June and plans to attend Peninsula College. She would like to become a pediatric nurse.

• Bauer, the daughter of Hop Dhooghe and Lynn Cooper, of Forks, is a 17-year-old senior at Forks High School sponsored by Forks Outfitters. She has been involved with the Clallam County Fair for many years. She is a member of the Rascals 4-H Club, being active in the dog and cat program. She also is involved in Team Leadership outside of 4-H. Bauer will graduate from high school in June as well as receive an associate degree from Peninsula College. Her goal is to become a State Patrol officer.

• Jackson is a 17-year-old junior at PAHS sponsored by Hermann Brothers Logging and Construction. Her parents are Bill and Kelly Jackson of Port Angeles. She has been involved with the fair for five years. She is a member of the Pure Country 4-H Club and is active in the rabbit project. Jackson is in the Team Leadership class at the high school and on the swimming team. She plans to earn an associate’s degree at Peninsula College, then attend fashion school and become a wedding designer for plus-size women.
