Pass the Mic and sing your heart out

Gargle some salt water and warm up the vocal cords for another chance at $500.

For the ninth year, King’s Way Foursquare Church brings back its popular singing competition, “Pass the Mic,” for adults and children.

Last year, Sequim teen Rachel Hughes won the grand prize with an operatic final performance. Second and third places win $250 and $125. Children can compete for a $100 first place, $50 second and $25 third. Registration is open through March 31.

Competition runs three nights, beginning at 7 p.m.

The first round is free and runs Thursday, March 31; the second round is Friday, April 1, and costs $5 a person or $20 a family. The final round is a special benefit dinner on Friday, April 8, and costs $25 a ticket, with hors d’oeuvres and desserts.

Auctions run on the second and final rounds. Items can be viewed in advance at the church’s website. Proceeds and ticket sales benefit construction of Camp King’s Way, which serves 250 campers in seven camps.

The camp is being built in four phases with Phase I — a 75-bed dormitory — complete. Phase II and III involve increasing the camp’s facilities to  an occupancy of 250.

Funds specifically help with a new water system, landscaping and ball field. Additionally, 10 percent of funds go to Haitian missions.

Table sponsorships are available ranging from $500-$1,000 each with special perks.
