A truck reported stolen Friday morning from Hooker Road was recovered in Sequim that evening and the man driving it arrested.
Police arrested Kaleb Isaac-Emilio Connely, 20, on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and trafficking in stolen property. Both are Class B felonies.
In a Clallam County Sheriff’s Office report, deputies said that at 8 a.m. March 25 a man reported his truck stolen from the 100 block of Hooker Road west of Sequim. At 7:45 p.m. Sequim police responded to the 400 block of West Spruce Street after a friend of the truck’s owner called them to report he had located the truck.
Connely was questioned by police and deputies and told them he stole the truck because he was homeless, had no food or coat, and wanted to sell it, deputies said.
He told deputies someone approached him in Port Angeles earlier in the day wanting to buy the truck and told him to bring the truck to Sequim later. When he did, he was surrounded by several people and assaulted, he told deputies. He believed it was a setup.
Connely was booked into the Clallam County jail and faces one count of theft of a motor vehicle. He will be arraigned in Clallam County Superior Court on April 1.
