The Russian Vladimir Boys and Young Men’s Choir brings its version of Russian composers to a Sequim audience at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 15, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave.

Under the direction of Professor Eduard Markin, the award-winning choir presents works by Russian composers Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Rachmaninov, Bortniansky and Rimsky-Korsakov and arrangements of Russian folk songs.

The choir is touring the Puget Sound area as part of the project “Russian Music in American Schools: American Music in Russian Schools,” which began in 2008 when the Vladimir Girls Choir visited Washington.

A friendship was made and the Puyallup High School Concert Choir was invited to spend a week in Vladimir, Russia. The Washington teenagers lived with families in the ancient city of Vladimir in April 2010, sang daily in schools and participated in a gala public concert with Markin’s choirs.

The Vladimir Boys Choir was invited to further the exchange this year with a visit to Puyallup, where members are staying April 8-15. When the group leaves Puyallup, they will travel to Port Townsend to stay with families before traveling to Sequim for the concert.

They also play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the Quimper Unitarian Universalist Church, 2333 San Juan Avenue, Port Townsend.

A $10 donation for the Sequim concert helps with tour expenses. Call St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at 683-4862.
