Deadline extended for student videos in “Land to Sea” project

“Right now the odds are ‘exceptionally good’ for a school or youth group to win a three-hour Sound Studies program aboard the schooner Adventuress,” jokes Executive Director Catherine Collins. “The truth is that we’ve received far fewer videos than we expected.”

Collins hopes to change that in the next two weeks, and is therefore officially extending the deadline for student videos to Friday, May 13. Students and teachers have not had a chance to complete their videos due to district-wide Measurements of Student Progress, or MSP, testing.

From “Land to Sea” — the Adventuress Video Project was launched on April 18, and challenges students, teachers and parents in peninsula schools and youth groups to create a short video that answers the question, “Why do YOU want to sail on Adventuress?”

Videos must be two minutes or less, and the contest is open to peninsula youth in grades 3-12 along with their teachers and parents. The short videos can be sent in DVD format to Sound Experience at PO Box 1390, Port Townsend, WA 98368, or uploaded electronically. To upload a video, send an e-mail to zach@soundexp.org for instructions. Videos must now be received by midnight on Friday, May 13.

Sound Experience will invite the public to “vote” for their favorite videos during the week of May 16-22. All videos will be uploaded to Sound Experience’s YouTube Channel, where voters can “like” their favorites.

The video with the most “likes” will win the contest, and the winner will be announced on Monday, May 23. Please note that videos submitted may be used by nonprofit Sound Experience for future program promotion. To learn more about this contest or how your group can sail aboard the Adventuress, visit www.soundexp.org, e-mail programs@soundexp.org, or contact Megan Addison at 360-379-0438.
