Quilt club’s show celebrates 25 years

The Sunbonnet Sue Quilt Club celebrates its 25th anniversary at this year’s quilt show, open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday-Sunday, July 15-17.

 

The featured artist for 2011 is Carol Clevenger. A $5 donation is requested.

 

Displays include 200 quilts, member challenge quilts, art quilts and heirloom quilts, as well as a display on the club’s 25 years in Clallam County.

 

Handmade fabric items are available in the Country Store at the show. The drawing for the 2011 raffle quilt is Sunday, July 17, at 4 p.m.; winning quilts are announced at 4:15 p.m. that day.

 

Free parking and a free shuttle bus are available at the JC Penney parking lot at West Washington Street and Seventh Avenue.

 

 

Sequim City Band plays for lavender Sunday
Sequim City Band celebrates the lavender weekend with an outdoor concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at the bandstand at the James Center for the Performing Arts, 563 N. Rhodefer Road, by Carrie Blake Park.

For convenient parking, with free shuttle service to the concert, follow the signs on Blake Avenue to Trinity United Methodist Church. Handicapped tags are needed to drive into the James Center parking lot off Rhodefer Road. Don’t forget chairs, blankets and sunglasses.

 

Continuing with July’s patriotic flavor, the band plays “American Flourish” by Robert Smith, “National Emblem” march by E.E. Bagley, “This is My Country” by Al Jacobs and Don Raye, “Where Valor Proudly Sleeps” by Robert Longfield and “Honey Boys on Parade” by E.V. Cupero. Also on the program are “Selections from the Music Man” by Meredith Wilson, including “76 Trombones,” and Spencer Williams’ “Basin Street Blues,” along with marches by Hall and Fillmore. The concert will begin and end with John Philip Sousa marches, “America First” and “Liberty Bell.”
