Olympic National Forest closes Brothers Wilderness Area

The Olympic National Forest is closing the Brothers Wilderness Area on Sept. 13 because of the Big Hump Fire.
The fire is burning in the west end of the Wilderness next to the Olympic National Park.
Duckabush and Mt. Jupiter tails leading into the Wilderness are also closed.
Officials said the restriction is necessary for the protection of public health and safety. The area is being patrolled.
The Big Hump Fire started along the Duckabush Trail in the Brothers Wilderness Aug. 31 and has consumed 1,230 acres.
It is being managed by a Type 3 Incident Management Team.
The combined conditions on the Big Hump Fire of inaccessibility, steep terrain, rolling debris and falling trees are safety risks to firefighters and the general public.
Violators can be fined $5,000-$10,000 or imprisoned up to six months.
