Sequim home invasions occurred in summer

Two Sequim men are charged in separate residential burglaries police said happened over the summer.

Dominic Anthony Megrant, 20, of Sequim, is charged with one count of residential burglary, a Class B felony, for allegedly breaking into a Sequim home and stealing more than $600 in cash, bank checks and $700 worth of prescription medications on July 19.

 

Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies said an investigation of the home, on Sunset Place, revealed several fingerprints and smudges on the outer pane of a kitchen window.

 

The fingerprints were consistent with the action of someone placing a palm on the window to slide it open, deputies said. The Washington State Patrol Crime Lab analyzed the prints and identified one as belonging to Megrant, deputies said.

 

Megrant was arrested Oct. 17 on suspicion of residential burglary and third-degree theft. Deputies said he denied the allegations. He was charged with residential burglary Nov. 28, appeared in court Dec. 30 and is set to be arraigned Jan. 6.

Similar charges

In a separate case, William Alan Duncan, 19, of Sequim, is charged with residential burglary, trafficking in stolen property and third-degree theft in connection with an Aug. 8 home invasion.

 

Sheriff’s deputies said Duncan and an accomplice entered a residence on Mountain View Drive by forcing open the back door. While inside, they stole a safe containing coins, credit cards and personal documents.

 

Deputies said Duncan sold some of the coins to a Port Angeles pawn shop and later used the stolen credit cards 10 times. Only one transaction, for $102, was successful, deputies said.

 

Duncan pleaded not guilty as charged Dec. 21 and is scheduled to go to trial Feb. 27.
