The Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce is starting the new year out by doing something it’s never done before. In effort to boost funds in a new and exciting way, the chamber is partnering with Oasis Sports Bar & Grill and hosting a fundraiser dance Saturday, Feb. 4.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to do something that’s not centered on another event,” said Shelli Robb-Kahler, executive director. “This is all our own.”

The dance — which is expected to become an annual and possibly even biannual event depending on its success — will feature a live performance by the band Creme Tangerine.

Robb-Kahler decided to book Creme Tangerine after hearing multiple positive reviews from peninsula residents who’ve attended concerts over the past few years.

“When I was talking to the band members, they said Sequim is one of their favorite places to play,” Robb-Kahler said. “They were very willing to work with us and will keep playing as long as people keep listening.”

While the band takes a break, guests can participate in games to win prizes. Tickets also will be for sale at the door for various raffle items, including Mariners tickets and a date night basket with champagne and theater tickets.

Because the band has such a good reputation in the area, organizers are selling all 150 tickets in advance. Tickets cost $25 per person and include one complimentary glass of wine or beer and an appetizer bar. Additional menu items are also available as well as a no host bar. Absolutely no tickets will be available at the door.

“I really don’t think we will have any problems selling out before the event,” Robb-Kahler predicted. “People are already hearing about it and saying, ‘That’s not a very big venue for that band, I better buy my tickets now.’”

Creme Tangerine is a Beatles tribute band based out of Seattle.

“Their music is well-loved across so many generations,” Robb-Kahler said. “They’re so popular that we might even invite them back next year.”

The mission of the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce is to advance and promote business by providing a forum to address issues and to unite and support membership and community through programs, events and services.

The chamber operates the Visitor Information Center— open 7 days a week, all year long except for major holidays — and serves an estimated 25,000 guests each year.

“By supporting the chamber, you help support the businesses in the community,” Robb-Kahler said. “It’s a win-win for everyone.”

The chamber is just shy of 500 members this year.

“Even in a daunting economy we’ve been able to hold our own,” Robb-Kahler said. “People are seeing the value of us working together and it’s important to us to help Sequim businesses because it helps Sequim as a whole.”

Membership benefits include a brochure display at the Visitor Information Center, business listing on the chamber’s website and monthly networking opportunities including luncheons and after-hours gatherings.

Additional optional member benefits include access to relocation inquiries, website banner advertising, enhanced website business listing, newsletter advertising and inserts in the monthly newsletter mailing.
