Sequim schools reset superintendent search meetings

Bad weather has postponed but not canceled several information sessions designed to help pick Sequim’s next school superintendent.

The district’s board of directors is inviting community members, students, parents and school staff to participate in the search in late January.

Individuals and groups are scheduled to meet with McPherson & Jacobson, the superintendent search firm selected by the Sequim School Board, to offer input on Tuesday, Jan. 31, and Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Each group will be responding to the same set of questions. The search firm will use the results to assist in screening and qualifying the applicants, school officials said.

To provide an environment that allows for honesty and unfiltered feedback, board members will not be present at these sessions, according to a district press release. However, the search firm will be collating the information for a presentation to board members on Feb. 6; the board may use some of the feedback to formulate possible questions for use during the interview process.

Bill Bentley, now in his fifth school year as Sequim School District superintendent, announced in November his resignation from the district’s top administrative spot, effective June 30.

The schedule for the input sessions is listed below. Times are designed to accommodate staff groups during their workday; however, anyone is welcome to attend any group session that fits into their schedule.

Sessions on Jan. 31 are either in the school district boardroom or auditorium, both at the Performing Arts building, 533 N. Sequim Ave.
