The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fire in Diamond Point that destroyed a modular home this morning, possibly killing a 2-year-old boy.

An excavator removed the collapsed roof of the home and the Sheriff’s Office is preparing to search through the debris in hopes of finding the missing toddler, said Patrick Young, Clallam County Fire District 3 public information officer.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

The missing boy’s father, 36-year-old Jeffrey Bellis, is listed in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center. Preliminary dispatch reports indicated he may have suffered burns over 50 percent of his body.

Young said Bellis’ other son, a 4-year-old, was treated for smoke inhalation by medics at the scene.

The boys’ mother, 30-year-old Heather Cary, and a woman who is believed to be their grandmother were not injured.

Emergency crews were called to the scene shortly before 11 a.m. The first to arrive reported the house was consumed by flames and the 2-year-old was believed to be trapped inside.
