Man shoots at suspects during home invasion

A homeowner shot at three armed males during an attempted home invasion robbery early Sunday morning.

Ron Cameron, chief criminal deputy with the Clallam County Sheriff's Office, said the attempted home invasion robbery happened around 1:30 a.m. on the 300 block of South Barr Road.

One of the suspects knocked on the back door of the home asking for gas, Cameron said. The homeowner, who kept the door closed and locked, told the suspect there was none.

The suspect asked to use a phone and the homeowner retrieved a phone and a handgun, Cameron said.

When the homeowner went to open the door, a second suspect appeared and pointed a gun at him, he said. The homeowner quickly shut the door and fired a shot through the door.

Deputies believe the two suspects fled to a car waiting on the roadway being driven by the third suspect, who was being contacted at the same time by a next door neighbor inquiring about why the car was there. Another suspect then got into the car and they drove north on South Barr Road.

Clallam County Sheriff's deputies, Sequim police officers, Port Angeles police officers, and Border Patrol agents responded to the scene and were unable to locate the car or any of the suspects, Cameron said. There was no evidence of any injuries.

The suspects are described as follows:
Suspect 1 is described as a white male, in his early 20’s, about five feet six inches tall, slender, dark hair, wearing a dark blue pullover hoodie and dark baseball cap.

Suspect 2, with the gun, was a white male, early 20’s, about six feet tall, blonde hair, slender, wearing a dark hoodie and a dark-colored bandana over his face.

The car is described as a dark-colored two-door small European style car with loud exhaust pipes and low to the ground. The driver was described as being in mid 20’s, clean-cut, with dark-colored hair.

This incident was similar to the situation in which three men entered and robbed a couple just east of Port Angeles early Saturday morning, Cameron said. Investigators believe there is a good chance the crimes are related. Anyone with information concerning the suspects is asked to call the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff's Office advises the public to address people through locked doors when anyone comes to their door requesting any sort of assistance and to call 9-1-1 if the person(s) requesting assistance is not known.
