On the opening evening of the Clallam County Fair, two young women were vying for the top spot as queen of the 2012 senior fair royalty.

Jena Chamberlin, 17, and Nichole Napiontek, 16, both of Port Angeles, answered spontaneous questions while looking glamorous at the Coronation on the Wilder Auto Stage.

After send-offs for last year's royalty from Queen Ruby Jackson and Princesses Brooklyn Bauer and Katelyn Noard, Jackson awarded Chamberlin the honors as Fair Queen for 2012. Napiontek was named Princess.

In the next year, they'll make appearances and visit parades in Western Washington.

During the question and answer session, Chamberlin said her favorite part of the fair involves walking around and seeing the animals, particularly “little piggies.” If she had to eat one fair food for the rest of her life it'd be corn on the cob.

“It's a vegetable,” she joked.

Napiontek said she enjoys the crash and bang of the Demolition Derby, and her favorite fair food is nachos because “it has dairy and grains,” she also joked.

The Clallam County Fair continues through Sunday, Aug. 19.
