On Saturday, Sept. 29, the Extreme Sports Park will open its gates to an anticipated crowd of thousands of thrill-seekers determined to make it over, under, around and through over 3½ miles of obstacles during Extreme Sports Park’s inaugural Run-a-Muck Obstacle Course Challenge spread out through a 90-acre area.

Originally inspired by the courses designed for elite military force training, Dan and Kelie Morrison with Jerry and Kim Payne, owners of the Extreme Sports Park, have mimicked some of the original obstacles as well as added in a few of their own to heighten the fun factor of the course.

“This is all about having fun,” said Kelie Morrison. “A lot of folks have signed up in teams and I’m sure we’ll see people helping each other as they make it through the course.”

When asked about what lies in store for those adventurous souls who are willing to Run-a-Muck, Kelie Morrison said, “We’re going to have a 100-foot mud slide; a cargo net over a 100-foot bog — and you’re supposed to go UNDER the net — to get through it; a boulder climb; a hill climb; huge tires set in a delightful pattern you’ll have to negotiate as well as a few others we’ll hold back as a surprise.”

Park officials have promised to have at least 15 stations in the course but are hoping they’ll have time to set up as many as 20.

Dan Morrison added, “This course is something you can make as difficult as you want it to be. I’ve heard from some folks in law enforcement that they are going to see if they can set a time record for their buddies to beat.

“But at the same time, if you get to a wall you don’t want to go over, it’s OK to go around. If you have a friend that needs a hand, or a good shove, no one is going to mark you down for assisting. It’s all about having a great time.”
