Parents, children ‘Play and Learn’
First Step Family Support Center is offering free Play and Learn parenting classes starting today, Oct. 24, at the First Step offices, 325 E. Sixth St., in Port Angeles. The classes for family, friends and caregivers of children ages birth-5 are from 1-2:30 p.m. each Wednesday and from 9:30-11 a.m. each Thursday. Fulbright Scholar speaks at P.C.
Dr. Sandep Kandhwal, Peninsula College’s first Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence, discusses the educational system in India at 12:35 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, in the college’s Little Theater. Kandhwal is a Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Zoology and the senior member of the faculty at Government College, Safidon, Jind. The program is free.
Women’s rights rally planned

OTA thrills with Halloween preview
Olympic Theatre Arts highlights Halloween with a discount preview at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, of the ghostly tale “The Woman in Black.” Tickets for the discount preview are $8 at the door only.

Join NAMI walk for mental health
The National Alliance on Mental Illness in Washington holds its eighth annual public awareness and fundraising walk at Marina Park in Kirkland on Saturday morning, Oct. 27. Peninsula Behavioral Health and Jamestown Family Health Clinic are sponsoring the local NAMI of Clallam County’s first-ever walk team.

Deadline nears for art show
The entry deadline is approaching for the Museum & Arts Center’s Sequim Centennial-themed November art exhibit “Sequim Reflections.”
Artists of all ages may submit up to three entries, which must be received from noon-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at the MAC Exhibit Center, 175 W. Cedar St. in Sequim.

Costume party benefits WAG
Welfare for Animals Guild hosts a fundraiser Halloween costume contest for pets and owners and a silent auction from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at Hurricane Ridge Veterinary Hospital, 530 W. Fir St., Suite D, in Sequim.

Banner reservations begin Nov. 1
The City of Sequim’s Public Works Department begins taking applications for the 2013 banner reservations on Thursday, Nov. 1. Reservations will be filled on a first-come first-served basis and must be hand-carried to 615 N. Fifth Ave. on Nov. 1 between 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. On Nov. 2 and after, they may be faxed to 360-681-0552, mailed to 152 W. Cedar St., Sequim, e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or hand-delivered.

Think warm for Veterans Day
Beginning Thursday, Nov. 1, through Monday, Nov. 12, Drennan & Ford Funeral Home and Crematory, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles, is collecting new or gently used sweaters, warm clothing, blankets, rain gear, gloves and the like to be donated to the Clallam County “Voices for Veterans,” where they will be distributed to the county’s veterans. Centennial group preps calendar
The Sequim Centennial Committee is developing an 18-month calendar of events and seeks information about any local events planned between Nov. 1, 2012, and Dec. 31, 2013.
