Nov. 12 marked United Way of Clallam County’s 60th anniversary and the goal for the annual fund drive is $1,060,000. As of Nov. 8, $267,777 (25 percent) has been received from more than 834 donors.

Beginning Nov. 15, an invitation to make a donation will be delivered to all residents and businesses in Clallam County.

“This mailing is intended to reach people who may not give through a workplace, who are new to the community or are retired,” according to Jody Moss, executive director of United Way. “It is not a request for a second gift.”

Last year,  she said, community members donated $883,000 to help people struggling in local communities.

“United Way is a locally run organization, supporting 25 local partner agencies year-round and providing a strong safety net for children, adults, seniors and families in our community,” said Lisa Meyer, president of the United Way board of directors. “Last year more than 56,000 people were helped by United Way and our agencies, engaging 3,000 volunteers who gave 166,000 hours of service valued at close to $3.5 million.”

Mary Ann Unger, chairman of this year’s campaign, said, “If everyone in Clallam County sent in a donation, imagine the good we can do right here at home.”

There are many options for giving to United Way: payroll deduction, check, credit card, PayPal, direct billing, IRA distribution or stock transfer. All donations are tax deductible. Call the United Way Office at 457-3011. Credit card or PayPal donations can be made at www.unitedwayclallam.org.
