Kathy 'Kate' A. Sweet
No service has been reported for Sequim resident Kathy "Kate" A. Sweet, who died Sept. 29, 2008, at the age of 62 of cancer.
She was born June 8, 1946, in Burbank, Calif., to Edwin F. and Alice K. Ford Paradies.
A retired transit driver, she enjoyed gardening, animals and the Pacific Northwest. Described as a warm and friendly person, she particularly loved her yard.
She is survived by her son Steven Sweet; daughter Kelly Sweet; and sister Christina Kowalewsky, all of California.
Neptune Society was in charge of arrangements.
James A. Holmlund
A memorial service for Sequim resident James A. Holmlund will be held at a later date. Mr.
Holmlund died Nov. 26, 2007.
He was born Aug. 14, 1922, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Eric and Anna Holmlund.
He served as first mate in the Merchant Marine from 1942-1946.
His ship, from Seattle, was bombed off the coast of China in 1946. There were no casualties.
He was a commercial and residential carpenter. After a fall, he developed Parkinson's disease. A very strong man, he always wanted to go out to eat for supper and never wanted to stay in bed.
Mr. Holmlund is survived by his wife of 59 years, Norma; daughter Mary; brother Paul; sister Ruth; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Memorial contributions can be made to Visiting Nurses Association, Veterans Administration Hospital - Puget Sound, 1660 Columbian Way, Seattle, WA 98108-1597 or to Olympic Peninsula Humane Society in Port Angeles.
Frances Jeanette Meyers
A service has been held for Port Angeles resident Frances Jeanette Meyers, who died Oct. 7, 2008, at the age of 95 of heart failure.
She was born June 19, 1913, in Port Angeles to Henry N. and Edith A. McNalley.
She began working shortly after she graduated from Crescent School. Her parents had a home in the Salt Creek area and she helped raise her younger siblings when her mother was stricken with cancer.
Work took her across the state of Washington and to California and Oregon. She worked in many professions, ranging from flower grower to semi-truck driver. When she worked for the state of California, she helped open the state's first halfway house for women parolees. A part-time Florida resident, she also volunteered at Northwind Ministry Thrift Store in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
Mrs. Meyers started Fran's Flowers in 1986 out of her Gales Addition home and used to deliver flowers from Port Angeles to Bremerton. She sold fresh-cut flowers, dried flowers and live plants to florists and at Gertie's Farmers Market in Port Angeles.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Irv and Marlene Beadle of Federal Way; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Robert Fish of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; sisters Doreen Kooistra of Edmonds and Vivian Lovaas of Seattle; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sons Wayne and Harold Beadle and brother Jesse Taylor.

Erlan Britsch
A service has been held for Sequim resident Erlan Britsch, who died Oct. 5, 2008, at the age of 64.
He was born Sept. 18, 1944, in Everett to Kenneth Johnston and Jeanette Ruth Gorecke.
He served in the Air Force. Mr. Britsch worked for Blake Sand & Gravel and Fred Hill Sand and Gravel. He was a member of the Lutheran Church and Teamsters Union.
He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law Steven and Melissa Britsch of Marysville, and Brent Britsch of Port Angeles; sisters and brothers-in-law Mechelle and Walt Finklein of Port Orchard and Leola K. Carter and Paul Baucom of San Diego, Calif.; and mother Jeanette Britsch of Port Orchard.
Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Betty Jean Lancaster
A service was held for Sequim resident Betty Jean Lancaster, who died Sept. 30, 2008, at the age of 75 of cancer.
She was born Nov. 29, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to James and Madeline J. Hill Gates.
She married Lester J. Lancaster in 1976. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Lancaster was a Clallam County court reporter for many years. She lived in Seattle, Ephrata, Port Angeles and Sequim. She enjoyed crochet, traveling, playing casino blackjack, drinking her vodka tonic and telling a good joke. She was a volunteer for Sequim Senior Activity Center and member of Sequim Elks Club.
She is survived by her sons James Donald and Randy Brian Woodward; stepchildren Michael Jay Lancaster; Jay Patrick Lancaster; Marguerite Sharp; Jay Lester Lancaster; Timothy Jay Lancaster; Julie Kay Chase; and Debra Joan Holmberg; and numerous grandchildren; nephews and nieces.
