Donald Hervin Anderson
No service was reported for Dungeness resident Donald Hervin Anderson, who died May 20, 2009, at the age of 92.
He was born July 5, 1916, in Seattle to O.T. and Nora Hervin Anderson.
He married Elenor Boynton in 1940 after several summers at the University of Washington Friday Harbor Oceanographic Laboratory where they were both graduate students.
She preceded him in death in 2005.
After graduating with a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Washington, he taught physics and chemistry at the university and then chemistry at University of Idaho. In 1947, he joined the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, N.Y. He retired from Kodak as director of the industrial laboratory and moved to Sequim in 1977.
During his early years in Sequim, Mr. Anderson worked with several teachers throughout the Sequim School District to develop demonstrations and projects illustrating basic principles of science. He founded the Retired Scientists, which still meets monthly at the Sequim Library, and was a member of Sigma Xi. He had been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1991.
He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law Dick and Alice Rapasky and Shirley Anderson.

Susan Jane Ortmayer Chapman
No service was reported for Sequim resident Susan Jane Ortmayer Chapman, who died May 17, 2009, at the age of 86 of lung cancer.
She was born Oct. 11, 1922, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Carl
Gottfried and Emily Kalvelage Ortmayer.
She married Gary Trent Chapman in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death in 1981.
She was an aviation machinists mate with the Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service, a United States Navy organization and attended the University of Michigan for two years before World War II.
She was a mother of five, a housewife, and also worked as a clerk for a fabric store.
She moved to Sequim in 2004 from the Milwaukee, Wis., area and enjoyed knitting, sewing and playing bridge. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Candis and Gary Trent Chapman Jr. of Friendship, Wis.; daughters and sons-in-law Carol and George Kondos of Plano, Texas; Barbara and William Radany of Murrieta, Calif.; Nancy and Jim Benson of Sequim; and Mary and Samuel Millsapps of Acworth, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Virgil D. 'Skip' Howard
No service was reported for Sequim resident Virgil D. 'Skip' Howard, who died May 18, 2009, at the age of 72.
He was born March 22, 1937, in Longview to Virgil S. and Elsie Viultkola Howard.
He married Jean Pinnell on July 31, 2008, in Sequim.
Mr. Howard lived in Kalama area for 21 years.
He worked for Foss Maritime for 36 years as a tugboat captain.
He loved working on the lawn and around the property. He also loved animals, old cars, and family.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; son Dane Howard of Kalama; daughters Jana Howard of Kalama; Tara Fox of Pendleton, Ore.; Tanya Weinke of Gresham, Ore.; and Joni Avants of Vancouver; step-children Tim and Mary Wilson of Sequim; Jason Wilson of Port Orchard; Becky Wilson of Bellevue; and Brooke Bickle of Chesaw; and six grandchildren.

Denver L. Gouge
A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. June 13 at
Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 209 W. 11th St., Port Angeles, for Port Angeles resident Denver L. Gouge.
A brunch will follow the service at the church.
Mr. Gouge died May 20, 2009, at the age of 73.
He was born May 27, 1935, in Seattle, to Claude D. Gouge and Violet G. (Eklund) Gouge.

David Eugene Watters
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. June 13 at Independent Bible Church, 116 E. Ahlvers St., Port Angeles, for Port Angeles resident David Eugene Watters.
Mr. Watters died on May 18, 2009, at the age of 65.
He was born March 24, 1944, in Valparaiso, Ind., to Calvin S. Watters and Arcola Ritter Watters. Arrangements are by Drennan & Ford Funeral Home.
Anna C. Simmons
Former Sequim resident Anna C. Simmons, died May 12, 2009, in Morton at the age of 92 of a heart attack.
She is survived by her long time friend Louwana Bairey Anderson and her Morton Manor family.
A memorial contribution can be made to the food bank.
Daren Wayne Fields
A service was held for Quilcene resident Daren Wayne
Fields, who died May 20, 2009, at the age of 26 of natural causes.
He was born Nov. 18, 1982.
