Earl Lamar Millet

A service will be held at 10 a.m. today, Sept. 30, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 815 W. Washington St., Sequim, for Sequim resident Earl Lamar Millet, who died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at the age of 86.

He was born June 3, 1923, in Chino Valley, Ariz., to Artimus Brundage and Minerva Sanders Millet.

He was raised in Mesa, Ariz., and graduated from Mesa High School in 1941.

He served in France, Germany and Belgium with the United States Army Infantry during World War II. He married Vina Mae Johnson on Dec. 7, 1945, in Mesa.

Mr. Millet, with his family and his cattle, moved to the Dungeness Valley in 1962, where he purchased 140 acres of farmland.

Winning many awards for milk production and dairying and selling prize bulls to Carnation, he installed two locally owned and operated drive-in milk stores under the brand "Mil-Key Farm." He loved being out in the field or working on a tractor.

In retirement he grew hay and corn to sell, and enjoyed meeting and talking to people. He built up a herd of more than 300 registered Holsteins, which he sometimes named for his daughters and granddaughters, one way he showed his sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vina Mae Millet of Sequim; sons Mike, Alan and Jeff from the Olympic Peninsula; Boyd of Sugar City, Idaho, and Curtis of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughters, Lora Millet and Gail Cromer of

Sequim; and Marianne Prause of Arlington; sisters Grace Carruthers and Betty Sanders of Arizona; 32 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, with four more on the way.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Noma; brothers, Anthon, Jean and Gayle Millet; and a sister, LaRee.



Mary Jane Davenport

A service was held for Sequim resident Mary Jane Davenport, who died Sept. 14, 2009, at the age of 84 of a stroke.

She was born March 13, 1925, in Chicago, Ill., to Harry T. and Marion B. McLoughlin Callahan.

She married Paul Davenport in San Jose, Calif., on Nov. 30, 1969.

She served in the United States Navy during World War II and later earned an associate of science degree.

In addition to Chicago and San Jose, she lived in Los Angeles, Calif. She moved to Sequim in 1993. She enjoyed dancing, musicals, theater, travel and politics. She was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Port Angeles.

Mrs. Davenport is survived by her husband Paul Davenport; sons and daughters-in-law Thomas Eads; David Eads; Kevin and Donna Eads; John Davenport; Duane Davenport and David Davenport; daughters Kathleen Dziuba and Julie Rebideaux; sister Joan Callahan; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 17 stepchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother Jack Callahan.

William Ted Johnson

No services were reported for Port Angeles resident William Ted Johnson, who died Sept. 18, 2009, at the age of 89.

He was born May 5, 1920, at a logging camp at Lake Crescent to John William and Lydia Felenius Johnson.

He graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1938.

He served in the Army Air Force and Signal Construction Battalion during World War II in northern France, landing at Omaha Beach. He earned the rank of corporal.

After the war, he became a Washington State trooper and a logging truck driver for Weyerhauser. He married Nada Joyce Spring on Nov. 26, 1959, in Raymond.

He retired in 1982 from Olympic National Park as an equipment operator. He enjoyed fishing, recreational vehicle camping and his Pomeranian dog. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife Nada Johnson; and brother Henry Johnson.

Genevieve Blackwell

No service was reported for Port Angeles resident Genevieve Blackwell, who died Sept. 21, 2009, at the age of 87.

She was born Nov. 25, 1921.
