A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 11, at Drennan & Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles, for Port Angeles resident Susan Kathrine Childers, who died May 6, 2012, at the age of 63.

She was born July 27, 1948, in Port Angeles to Harry and Lucile Noble Wilson.

Clallam Bay resident Katherine M. Smiley died April 27, 2012, at the age of 83.
She was born Feb. 17, 1929.

Phyllis M. Lindecrantz
5/17/36 - 5/3/12

Phyllis was born in Portland, OR, on May 17, 1936, to Mr. and Mrs. Charles and Myrtle Blain. She left this world to be with her Lord on May 3, 2012. Phyllis enjoyed sewing, needlework, gardening, and raising her family with her husband, Bob. Phyllis leaves behind her husband, Bob, her two children, and her three grandchildren. 

 

Barbara Shields Rote
January 11, 1964 - April 28, 2012
Barbara Shields Rote, 48, passed away April 28th of heart failure at the Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles. Barbara was born January 11, 1964 in Port Angeles.
Barbara was the daughter of Joan Shields Bennett and her late husband, Navy Seabee, CMA3 Marvin G. Shields, who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously by President Lyndon Johnson in 1966 for his heroic actions in Vietnam.  
As a member of a Navy family Barbara lived in numerous locations, including Hawaii, Virginia, New York, Georgia, California as well as Washington.
A graduate of Radford High School in Honolulu, Hawaii she later graduated from Whitworth University in Spokane in 1986 where she received a nursing degree. Barbara was a registered nurse at Sacred Heart hospital in Spokane, Washington and later was a home health care nurse for severely ill home-bound children in Snohomish and King Counties. She subsequently worked for Blue Cross-Blue Shield Insurance applying her nursing knowledge in evaluating health claims.
Barbara was married to Christopher Woods August 2nd 1992. Following a divorce, she later married Steven Rote at Westport, June 18, 2001 and resided in Olympia, Washington.
She was a long-time member of the Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Lacey where she served as a council member. She enjoyed many hand crafts including quilting, ceramics, sewing, and loved outdoor camping with her family. She was a loving wife, and devoted mother, as well as a caring friend, being generous and jovial with a quick laugh and warm embrace.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband Steven of Olympia, daughter Sarah Elizabeth Woods of Molalla, Oregon, stepson, Michael Rote of Puyallup, stepdaughter Mrs. Ryan (Alexis) Belrose of Everett, parents Dick & Joan Bennett of Gardiner, and sister Mrs. Todd (Stephanie) Wright of Kenmore.
Memorial services were held Saturday, May 5th , at the Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, in Lacey, Washington.  A “Celebration of Life” reception for Barbara is scheduled for 1pm, Saturday, 12 May at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Rd., Gardiner.

Edith (Edie) Morgan
February 26, 1914 - May 4, 2012
Edith (Edie) Morgan passed away on Friday, May 4, 2012
in Port Angeles.  She was 98 years old.
Edith was born on February 26, 1914 in Houston Texas, to Harry Floyd Outterside and Helen Gertrude Duncan.   She experienced much happiness during her early years in Houston’s Woodland Heights neighborhood.
Edie graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1932, and attended Sam Houston State College in Huntsville, Texas until the Great Depression required her to stop her studies and begin working.  She worked for Houston Natural Gas Company for eight years. 
In 1937, Edie married James H. Morgan, her childhood sweetheart. During World War II they lived in Atlanta Georgia and Charlottesville Virginia. At the end of the war they returned to Houston to raise their family.  
In 1955, the family moved to Seattle. Although the marriage ended in divorce,  Edie and Jim maintained a lifelong friendship.   Edie worked for 21 years in the business office at Children’s Hospital. She made many close friends, enjoyed working and became involved in the Children’s Hospital Guild. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Seattle.
Edie enjoyed a retirement where she traveled with friends and with Elderhostel and worked part time for Porter and Jensen Jewelers. She was a literacy volunteer with adults and with children in the Seattle Public Schools.  She was blessed with a granddaughter in 1988 and was a wonderful and devoted grandmother. Edie moved to Sequim and lived at the Fifth Avenue Retirement Center for fifteen years. Her last three years she lived at St. Andrew’s Place in Port Angeles.  
Edie was a kind and compassionate person. She kept a sharp mind to her last day of life, was aware of the world around her and was a lifelong Democrat. She gave generously to her church and to United Way and to her Children’s Hospital Guild. 
Edie is survived by her son, Michael Morgan of Seattle;  daughter,  Mary Morgan and husband Tim McNulty of Sequim;  granddaughter,  Caitlin McNulty of Houston;  niece, Billie Sandra Smith of Port Angeles;  and niece,  Betty Jean Corte, of Montgomery, Texas.
A private gathering will be held by family and friends to celebrate Edie’s life. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Andrew’s Place in Port Angeles and to Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County.
