Jack R. Eby A service was held for Sequim resident Jack R. Eby, who died Jan. 1, 2009, at 81. He was born Feb. 4, 1927, in Salem, Ore., to Ai Edwin and Opal Virginia Lucus Eby. He served in the United States Army from March 1946 to August 1947 and married Dona Lee Merick on July 22, 1972, in Renton. Mr. Eby worked as a manufacturing engineer for Boeing for 35 years before retiring in 1989. He enjoyed climbing and camping. He was a member of American League, Footprinters, Elks, Rocky Mountain Goats and was president of Bo-Alps Mountaineering. He is survived by his wife Dona Lee Eby of Sequim; son and daughter-in-law Greg and Sue Eby of Portland, Ore.; daughter and son-in-law Diane and Curt Stimpson of Redmond; Sherry and Eldon Carlson of Bellevue; Sandi and Greg Warren of Woodenville; and Jennifer Eby of Bothell; stepdaughters and son-in-law Debbie Askew of Renton and Denise and Bob Burns of Federal Way; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Corrine Towne No service was reported for Port Angeles resident Corrine Towne, who died Jan. 6, 2009, at 91. She was born in June 1917 in Tempre, Finland, to Arvid and Alma Manners Korhonen. She graduated from Joyce High School in Joyce. She married Alfred Alderson in 1934 in Port Angeles. They divorced and he died in 1953. She married Arnie Towne in 1951 in Port Angeles. He died in 1971. Mrs. Towne worked for 31 years for Borde Drug in Clallam Bay. She enjoyed traveling, especially to visit her daughter Alma and her family. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law John and Peggy Alderson and Lawrence and Sharon Alderson, all of Port Angeles; daughter and son-in-law Alma and Chuck Hosback of Lake Isabella, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Drennan & Ford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Claud McNeil Pittman No service was reported for Port Angeles resident Claud McNeil Pittman, who died Dec. 30, 2008, at 80. He was born Aug. 30, 1928, in Ocilla, Ga., to Henry Albert and Rachel Ring Pittman. His marriage to Jaquelyn Hoar ended in divorce. Mr. Pittman frequently played at Dungeness Golf and Country Club. He is survived by his sons James and Michael Pittman, both of Virginia; and Anthony Pittman of Port Angeles; son and daughter-in-law Steve and Kyle Pittman of Virginia; daughter Karen Pittman of Virginia; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Smithton Private family services will be held at a later date for Sequim resident Ben F. Smithton, who died Jan. 3, 2009, at the age of 92. He was born Oct. 18, 1916, in Chicago, Ill., to Ben F. and Teresa E. Sandner Smitzdorf. He married Ruth H. Linard on Sept., 3, 1937. She preceded him in death on Jan. 29, 2007. Mr. Smithton earned a Bachelor of Science degree in finance at the University of Notre Dame. He was vice president of finance for Coca Cola Company in Los Angeles, Calif. He was a leader of the Republican Party in Los Angeles and met several past presidents. He and his wife were members of the Ballroom Dancing Association and entered several competitions over the years. In his 20s, he sang with the Tommy Dorsey Band and enjoyed singing all his life. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Fullerton Footlighters Community Theater. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Richard and Mary Smithton of Sequim and Robert and Susan Smithton of Ross, Calif.; daughter Terry Smithton of Sequim and daughter and son-in-law Penny and Pete Peters of Everett; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Drennan & Ford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Margaret Jennadean White A service was held for former Sequim resident Margaret Jennadean White, who died Dec. 31, 2009, at the age of 96. She was born July 14, 1912, in St. Joseph, Mo., to John Conrad and Mamie "Ethyl" Nelson. She graduated from Flathead Co. High School in Kalispell, Mont., in 1931 and attended Montana State College in Bozeman, Mont., from 1931-34. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority, PEO and the Presbyterian Church. She married Elwyn Loyal White in January 1935 in Kalispell. Mrs. White's interests included sewing, needle crafts, reading and travel. She altered bridal gowns and retail women's wear. She lived in Oregon from 1940-1948; Boise, Idaho, from 1948-1964; Portland/Vancouver, from 1964-1970; Sequim, from 1970-1991; and Portland, from 1991 to her death. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Susan and Fred Hemetsberger of Port Angeles; and two grandchildren. |
