April 15, 2009Stanley OlszakA service was held for Sequim resident Stanley Olszak, who died March 31, 2009, at the age of 83. He was born March 13, 1926, in White Horse, N.J., to John and Eva Kovel Olszak. He served in the United States Navy from 1943-1944 and 1950-1954 and married Elizabeth Betty Schwickrath on Jan. 25, 1953, in New York. Mr. Olszak lived in New Jersey, New York, California and Washington and was a meat cutter at a meat packing plant. He was interested in Polish culture, traveling, football and Duke University basketball. He was a member of American Legion and the USS Curtiss AV-4 Association. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Olszak of Sequim; daughter Beth Ann Olszak of Seattle; brother Paul Olszak of Atlantic City, N.J.; sisters-in-law Flora and Winnie Seligman of Norward, N.J.; Gloria Schwickrath of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; and Angie Schwickrath of Surprise, Ariz.; and brother-in-law David Schwickrath. Caroline Woodman No services were reported for Sequim resident Caroline Woodman, who died April 3, 2009, at the age of 87. She was born Sept. 19, 1921, in Austria. She married Russell Woodman. Sally Elizabeth Grice A service was held for Gardiner resident Sally Elizabeth Grice, who died April 1, 2009, at the age of 57 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born Aug. 11, 1951, to Stephen and Lilian Grice. She grew up in the California Bay area and moved to Bainbridge Island in 1979 with her son, Stephen. She was a registered licensed practical nurse and loved taking care of her patients. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing and being with her two granddaughters. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Theresa Sawvel; mother and stepfather Lillian and Ray Bean, brothers and sister-in-law Stephen and Gloria Grice; Art Grice; Tom Grice; sister and brother-in-law Linda and Jeff Pascoe; two granddaughters; three nephews and one niece. She was preceded in death by her father Stephen Grice and a niece. Cook Family Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Myrna Marie Sullivan A service was held for Port Angeles resident Myrna Marie Sullivan, who died April 4, 2009, at the age of 65 following a prolonged illness. She was born Dec. 31, 1943, in Port Angeles to Jillstry and Nellie Charles Sullivan. She graduated from Seattle Bible School in 1966 and attended Peninsula College from 1991-1993. Ms. Sullivan worked as a fisherman, postal worker, a cultural history and Klallam language teacher and a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her family and studying her Native American culture and language. She also enjoyed Bible study, prayer meetings and crocheting. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Pete and Richelle Stephan and Duane and Melinda Stephan; daughter Dawn Stephan; brothers and sister-in-law Dennis and Arlene Sullivan and Stanley Johnson; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Geraldine Bondurant Bartlett No service was reported for Sequim resident Geraldine Bondurant Bartlett, who died March 17, 2009, at the age of 93 of lung cancer. She was born Oct. 1, 1915, in Kirksville, Mo., to William P. and Georgia Stokes Bondurant. She married Dr. R.H. Bartlett. They were divorced. She earned bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees in business education. She taught business subjects for 42 years at Kirksville Senior High School. She was a deacon at First Presbyterian Church in Kirksville. She moved to Sequim in 2001 to be near her children, Dr. R.W. Bartlett of Bothell and Linda Grubb of Sequim. She was a member of Sequim Community Church. Jessie Helen Marshall A private memorial service will be held for Sequim resident Jessie Helen Marshall, who died April 9, 2009, at the age of 103. She was born March 26, 1906, in Warrenton, Ore., to William and Laconia Smith Oman. Sequim Valley Chapel was in charge of arrangements. |
