Fifth-grade students from Olympic Christian School enjoy a field trip to Seattle in December. Submitted photo

Olympic Christian School’s fifth-grade class recently ventured out to the Seattle Science Center to learn about ancient Egyptian history through the King Tut exhibit and IMAX in December.

Students were enraptured by the mummification process as they saw the IMAX film, “Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs.” They were able to relate the IMAX back to things they had learned in Bible class about the Exodus.

“The IMAX prepared us for the King Tut exhibit,” said Tiffany Manning, OCS fifth-grade teacher. “As we explored the various chambers of the exhibit, students were struck by the preservation of the artifacts, how clearly they could see the hieroglyphs, how many precious items the pharaohs had buried with them, how advanced their civilization was and what a significant role the pharaohs played in history.”

“This whole field trip tied in well to things we’d been studying in science and history in relation to artifacts and archaeology,” Manning said. “We are so thankful for the great weather we had and all of the parent volunteers who came with us.”
