Steenberg takes third

at wrestling nationals

Summer Steenberg, a freshman at Pacific University and 2007 Sequim High graduate, took third place in the 59-kilogram weight division at the first National Collegiate Wrestling Association Women's National Championships in Lakeland, Fla.

Steenberg, who finished second at the MatClassic Washington state wrestling finals in 2007 (135-pound weight class), went 2-2 in the national tournament, getting two first-round pins. She was one of eight Pacific wrestlers to earn All-American status.

Pacific University (Forest Grove, Ore.) finished with 50 team points, second only to Simon Fraser University (British Columbia).



'Old' P.T. park

hosts trail walk

Old Fort Townsend State Park and the Friends of Old Fort Townsend are hosting a four-mile cross country trail run/walk at Old Fort Townsend (1370 Old Fort Townsend Road) on May 31.

The race begins at 10 a.m. with registration between 8-9:30 a.m.

Cost is $15 the day of the race. All proceeds go to support the Friends of Old Fort Townsend and trails coalition for future trail development.

Rowing group offers

challenge for youth, adults

The Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association and the Clallam County YMCA are sponsoring a rowing challenge for participants as young as kindergarten age from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at the Clallam County Family YMCA building, 302 S. Francis St., Port Angeles. The event features rowing machine races and demonstrations, prizes and more.

Prizes are awarded to the top three participants in each grade and gender. Adults can row and check times against the rest of the world.

Check in times are kindergarten (250 meters), 3 p.m.; grades 1-5 (500 m), 3 p.m.; grades 6-8 (1,000 m), 4 p.m.; grades 9-12 (1,000 m), 4:30 p.m.
