Five innings and a cloud of dust.

That's all Sequim's fastpitch club has seen so far in its first two games, blowing out Bremerton on March 18 and Vashon on March 20.

It was good to get a couple of warm-up games," said Sequim coach Mel Hendrickson, looking ahead to the Wolves' tough upcoming week: March 23 at North Kitsap, March 25 at Olympic and March 27 at Klahowya.

Last Wednesday against Bremerton's Knights, Sequim (2-0) pounded out 11 runs in the first two innings and cruised to a win. Lea Hopson, Kenzi Winfield and Maddy Zbaraschuk each had home runs while Chelsie Winfield and Demiree Briones each had three hits in the Wolves' 18-hit barrage.

Chelsie Winfield got the win on the mound, giving up just one hit, one walk and one run in three innings, striking out five Knights. Briones picked up the final two innings, striking out three Knights and giving up zero base hits.

Two days later, the Wolves survived ice-cold temperatures and blisteringly frigid win for a 19-2 crushing of the 1A visitors from Vashon Island.

Kenzi and Chelsie Winfield, Lea Hopson and Zbaraschuk had two hits each in the win. Lauren Hendrickson and Briones combined on a no-hitter. Hendrickson pitched three innings and struck out eight batters but did give up six walks in the blustery winds. Briones struck out all six batters she faced.

Vashon committed eight errors; the Wolves, none.

"It's hard to play in this kind of weather," coach Hendrickson said. "It was miserable out here today."

Except for the score, of course.
