Timberwolves split versus Forks, Stevens

In the land of make-believe vampires, Forks' middle school hoops squad showed a little bite last week.
Sequim Middle School's eighth-grade boys helped the Timberwolves rebound after Forks' seventh-graders won the opener on Dec. 17. Jesse Francis scored 12 points while Anthony Pinza added 10 points in a 35-19 Sequim victory.
The Timberwolves shut out Forks 10-0 in the first quarter and built a 27-13 lead after three quarters.
Sequim's seventh-grade squad wasn't as fortunate. In a battle of undefeated squads, Forks' defense held tough and forced Sequim to shoot just above 20 percent from the field in a 37-33 Forks win.
Alex Barry led Sequim with nine points, 10 rebounds, four assists and five steals while Josh Conomos added five points and two blocks. Kyle Harrison chipped in eight points.
Sequim also picked up a win in the combined seventh-eighth grade junior varsity game, edging Forks 42-37.
The Timberwolves are off for the holiday break until Jan. 7, when the clubs host Chimacum.

Port Angeles' Stevens White eighth-grade squad earned a tough win while Sequim's younger squad got a bit of revenge last week as the schools split their two games on Dec. 14.
In the opener, Barry scored 24 points and had 12 rebounds and six steals as the Timberwolves blasted Stevens 62-38. Sequim had a 21-2 lead after one quarter and 34-17 by halftime. The T-Wolves also got seven points and 15 rebounds from Conomos. Dustin Bates led the team with six assists. Nine different Sequim players found the scoring column.
In the nightcap, Stevens' height and rebounding acumen served the team well as the Port Angeles squad outlasted Sequim 47-33. Pinza led the Timberwolves with 15 points; Joseph Landoni and Brandon Payne had five points each.
