Wolves advance to districts

Sequim's Wolves still have more pins to drop.
Sequim High's bowling squad earned a top-four finish at the Olympic League tournament on Jan. 22 in Silverdale, edging out North Mason for the fourth and final berth to the West Central District tournament.
That tourney, held in Lakewood, is set for Saturday, Jan. 30.
Olympic, league regular season champs with a 15-0 record, won the overall team title at the six-team league finale, knocking over more than 3,400 pins. The Trojans easily outscored runner-up Bremerton and third-place Klahowya.
The Wolves racked up 2,676 pins in all, more than 250 pins beyond North Mason's Bulldogs. Peninsula was sixth.
The top-three individual bowlers were Trojans as well. Audrey Deustch won the league individual title with a 598-pin, three-game series.
Alex Whiteside was
Sequim's top individual bowler, racking up 482 pins in three games.
Only the top two teams and an additional four individual bowlers advance from districts to the state 2A/3A tourney, scheduled for Feb. 5 in Tacoma.
Bremerton beats Sequim
Looking for a strong finish to the regular season, the Wolves got exactly that in Bremerton last week.
Despite a 6-1 loss to the talented Knights squad, Sequim saw Alex Whiteside come within seven pins of teammate Kim Duce's new school record for a series by knocking down 352 pins, including 203 pins in game one.
Sister Samantha Whiteside added a 274-pin series.
Bremerton was simply too deep, winning game one, 796-697 and game two, 817-659.
The Wolves did manage to take one Baker-format game, winning game two, 152-135.
Misty Braddock led the Knights with a 408-pin series (210-198).
Sequim forfeited a Jan. 21 match-up with Olympic so team members could concentrate on finals, coach Randy Perry said.
The loss dropped
Sequim's final 2009-2010 regular season record to 6-9 in league and overall.
The Wolves were 5-10 in 2008-2009.
