Washington State Golf Association Women's Amateur defending champion Pamela Burneski, of Surrey, British Columbia, successfully defended her championship title at the Cedars at Dungeness this past week with a 54-hole total of 4-over par 220. Simone Strauss, of Kirkland, was second and Lauren Sewell, of Renton, was third.
In the Senior Amateur Championship, Alison Murdoch, of Victoria, British Columbia, was first with a 54-hole total of even par 216 and a three-stroke victory. Ginny Burkey, of Fircrest, was second and defending champion Yasue Alkins, of Lacey, was third.
The shot of the day came from Sun Douthit, of Steilacoom, who aced the 146-yard 17th hole.
The championship called for 54 holes of stroke play. Entries were open to female amateur golfers who have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 20.4 for the Amateur Championship, and 26.4 for the Senior Amateur Championship. Senior Amateur contestants must be 50 years of age or older.
