The dream - as of Monday afternoon, anyway - is still alive.
Both of Sequim's entries in the Washington State Little League softball playoffs have a chance for the tourney crown after each team split its opening games.
Sequim's juniors squad opened with a 6-2 victory against District VII (South Seattle) on July 17 in Vancouver, Wash.
Makayla Bentz pitched a complete game for the win while Shelby Lott kick-started a rally with a base hit to center field.
"It was a good game: strong defense, solid pitching (and) we ran the bases well," Sequim coach Dave Bentz said.
On July 18, Sequim and Stilly Valley (Arlington) battled late into the evening before Stilly Valley came away with a 6-4 victory, dropping
Sequim into the consolation bracket.
Sequim got five solid innings from Melissa Lewis, and Olivia Kirsch tossed the final two innings.
"We had it going on early," Bentz said, noting his team was up 3-1 in the fifth inning.
"Then they started hitting the ball (and we had) a couple of errors," he said. "In the end, we just didn't hit the ball."
Sequim was slated to play Battle Ground Monday evening in the
consolation quarterfinals, with the winner taking on the winner of the District VII-South Seattle/North East-District VIII contest.
Sequim 10s, 11s rebound
Sequim's 10- and 11-year-old all stars got bumped from the championship bracket in the first round when Everett topped the local squad 10-0 on July 17 in Yacolt.
Sequim bounced back with a 5-3 win against the District VII-South Seattle team, getting solid pitching from McKenzie Bentz and a home run and triple from Allysen Montelius.
The Sequim team was slated to play the District X champion from Kent and Auburn on Monday evening - results of the game were unavailable at press time.
The winner of that contest takes on the winner of the Everett/LaCamas game in the consolation quarterfinals.
Both Sequim squads earned at least a tie for sixth place at the state tourney; wins Monday guarantee the teams at least fourth place.
