Wolves, Riders set to battle in Sequim

The road for the Wolves just doesn’t get any easier.
Sequim saw its five-game Olympic League winning streak come to an abrupt halt on Jan. 4 against Kingston and then dropped a 20-point decision to Olympic two days later.
Sequim (5-3 in league play, 8-5 overall) looks to get back on a winning track this week. The Wolves were slated to play Port Townsend on Jan. 11 — results of the game were unavailable at press time.
Sequim hosts rival — and league leader — Port Angeles on Jan. 13, a varsity double-header with the boys’ teams.
Last season, the Rough-riders roughed up Sequim twice, by scores of 73-25 and 84-20.
The Wolves host North Mason on Jan. 18 and Bremerton on Jan. 21.
Bucs, Trojans bully Wolves
The Wolves may be a different team, but figuring out how to beat the Kingston Buccaneers remains a puzzle.
Alex Rose-Albert scored a team-high 14 points to lead the host Buccaneers to a 52-34 win against Sequim on Jan. 4, both teams’ first league game since mid-December.
Rylleigh Zbaraschuk led Sequim with 17 points.
In the end, that was enough to help Kingston secure its sixth consecutive win versus the Wolves.
Rose-Albert, a former Sequim player, helped Kingston get out to an early lead by scoring 11 points in the opening quarter, as the Bucs led 16-10 after the first eight minutes.
“This was pretty exciting,” Rose-Albert told the Kitsap Sun. “It was fun to score all those points at the beginning.”
The win tied a Kingston school record for consecutive victories, one that Port Angeles snapped on Jan. 7.
Kingston and Sequim meet again Feb. 4 in Sequim.
Two days later, Olympic powered past Sequim 46-26, making it a clean season sweep for the Trojans. Haleigh Harrison led Sequim with seven points.
Shannon Jackson led Olympic with 16 points, the only player in double figures.
