The Wolves missed the win column last week in a pair of games against their rivals, but it wasn’t for lack of effort.

 

Sequim’s girls soccer squad dropped a 5-0 decision to a talent-laden Port Angeles squad on Sept. 15, three days after a tough, overtime loss to Port Townsend.

 

On Sept. 12, Sequim jumped out to a 2-1 lead by halftime on the strength of goals from Kayla Hagberg and Vianey Cadenas.

 

But the Redskins tied the game in the second half thanks to a Jewel Johnson score, then got a game-winning goal from defending Olympic League co-MVP Irina Lyons in the first five-minute overtime for a Redskin 3-2 victory.

 

The Roughriders earned a non-league victory against Sequim later in the week, P.A.’s third shutout of the young season.

 

Port Angeles got two scores from senior Kathryn Moseley and one each from Kaitlin Boston, Danielle Schimschal and, just before halftime, a goal from Kylee Jeffers that made it 3-0 Riders.

 

The Wolves (1-3) opened the season with a big win against a smaller opponent, shutting out the Chimacum Cowboys 12-0 at home on Sept. 6.

 

Sequim got goals from Makayla Bentz, Lauren Bell, Cadenas, Leslie Cisneros, Maeve Harris, Hagberg, Sara Jane Hutcheson, Quinn  O’Neil and Kristin Phifer.

 

McAleer said the win was a little bittersweet in that the 1A Cowboys were overmatched.

 

On Sept. 10, Sequim dropped a 7-1 decision to Fife, with Hagberg getting the lone Sequim score.

 

The Wolves were scheduled to host Olympic on Sept. 20 — results of the game were unavailable at press time. Sequim is at Klahowya (Silverdale) on Sept. 22 and at Bremerton on Sept. 27 before hosting North Mason on Sept. 29.
