Sequim rally falls short

Close, but not close enough for a W.
Sequim’s Wolves put the clamps on North Kitsap freshman scoring phenom Rebekah Baugh and closed to within a single point of the Vikings with 60 seconds left, but a cold shooting spell and NK’s keen free-throw shooting spelled a 41-37 Sequim loss on Dec. 16.
Haleigh Harrison had 14 points while Taylor Balkan and Alexas Besand added eight points each in defeat, the third in as many games for Sequim (1-5 in league play, 1-6 overall).
Harrison had the role of stopper for the Wolves, holding Baugh (19.5 points per game) scoreless through the fourth quarter, when the Viking freshman picked up a foul and technical for her fourth and fifth infractions.
Sequim had a chance to go ahead or tie with the score 36-35, but a pair of shots clanged off the rim and NK’s Indigo Williams and Kristin Brown sealed the Viking win at the free-throw line.
Eagles fly past Wolves
In Silverdale on Dec. 14, Sequim went to battle minus their H’s — Harrison and Hannah Hudson — and fell to Klahowya’s Eagles in overtime, 40-33.
Balkan had 10 points and Besand added nine in the loss.
Klahowya outscored
Sequim 12-5 in the overtime period.
On Dec. 12, Bremerton’s girls held off a late rally by the Wolves for a 58-55 win, despite 27 points from Balkan.
Besand added 12 points as Sequim outscored Bremerton 21-12 in the fourth quarter.
The Wolves, who whittled an 11-point Knights’ lead to three in less than 90 seconds, held Knights senior Jalen Carpenter, a Weber State signee, to a season-low six points.
