Bristol Marunde is a busy guy.
In the same week that he’s promoting a mixed martial arts event at 7 Cedars Casino in Blyn, the former Sequim resident is preparing for a national-televised MMA fight.
Marunde, a Super Cage Combat middleweight champion, (15-6 MMA, 0-0 SF) has agreed to fight ex-Strikeforce titleholder Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza (14-3 MMA, 4-1 SF) at the "Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey" event slated for Saturday, March 3 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
Souza's original opponent, an undefeated Derek Brunson (9-0 MMA, 3-0 SF), was forced off the card after failing a pre-event vision test.
The event's main card, including Marunde vs. Souza, airs live on Showtime while preliminary-card fights air on Showtime Extreme.
Marunde is listed at 6-feet 1-inch and 185 pounds. (See his profile at mmajunkie.com/fighter/3906/bristol-marunde.mma)
Marunde is making his Strikeforce debut, winning nine of his past 10 fights. That included a November decision victory over former UFC fighter Jay Silva. Other recent wins have come against Shane Primm, Chuck Grigsby and Victor Moreno. Six of his 15 career wins have come via submission and four via knockout.
Marunde, a 2000 Sequim High graduate, now lives in Nevada.
The Alaskan native and current Nevada-based fighter now meets Souza, a submission ace fights for the first time since surrendering his belt to Luke Rockhold this past September.
