The more, the merrier.

The Olympic Peninsula Eagles, a minor league adult football team, recently merged with the Kitsap County Bears and begin play Saturday, May 5, in Port Townsend against the Puget Sound Outlaws.

With one “home game” scheduled at Sequim High School (on June 23) and four at Port Townsend’s Memorial Field, the Eagles’ roster has grown to 52 players (up from 25 last season) and still boasts a distinct peninsula flavor.

Coach Mike McMahan said former Eagle quarterback Don Purser left the squad to start the Bears, but approached McMahon in the offseason to combine teams.

The Eagles were forced to move their home games to Port Townsend and Sequim after Roosevelt Elementary School in Port Angeles saw half its football field damaged by a mudslide, McMahan said.

Saturday’s game features a 6 p.m. kickoff. The game also is a food drive for the Jefferson County Food Bank. Bring two cans of food and get $1 off the $6 adult admission. Students and seniors are $5 and children younger than 12 get in free. For more information, see the team’s website at www.leaguelineup.com/opeagles or call McMahan at 360-670-5835.
