Demiree Briones wasn’t about to let Port Angeles claim any part of an Olympic League title Wednesday.

The senior ace tossed a one-hitter as Sequim’s Wolves routed the Roughriders at Dry Creek Elementary, claiming a share of the league title with Kingston at 14-2.

Sequim and Port Angeles were playing for a share after Kingston topped Sequim Tuesday afternoon.

But the Wolves clinched this one early, gouging the Port Angeles defense for eight runs in the first four innings.

Briones finished 4-for-4 with a triple, two doubles and three RBIs while Amber Robb drove in four runs. Alexas Besand was 2-for-4 with a steal and Columbia Haupt had two hits.

Maddy Hinrichs had Port Angeles’ lone hit, a single that helped fuel a two-run rally in the sixth.

Port Angeles, down 11-0 by then, plated two runs and had runners on second and third when Sequim’s defense quashed the threat. Ground balls to Briones, MaryLu Clift and Olivia Kirsch ended the inning.

Briones allowed four walks and the one hit while striking out three Roughriders.

Sequim racked up 13 hits and walked eight times.

The Wolves were slated to play at sub-districts Saturday in Bremerton. A coin toss decides whether Sequim or Kingston is the No. 1 or No. 2 seed at sub-districts.

Both teams advance to the West Central District tourney, set for May 18-19 in Tacoma.
