Westside Pizza to the rescue

With apologies to playwright Paddy Chayefsky’s Marty …

“What do you want to do for dinner tonight, Greg?” sez I. “I dunno, what do you want to do for dinner?” sez Greg. “Well,” sez I, “I sure as heck don’t wanna cook!”

Problem: hungry and tired. Solution: Westside Pizza!

And within 45 minutes, Greg and I had an epicurean meal pour deux delivered right to our door. And I am not ashamed to say, this was a Friday night pig out!

Our feast included a large half-n-half pizza (my side with fresh tomatoes and Greg’s with pepperoni, black olives, and artichoke), two salads (we chose Italian and Caesar but there also are ranch and bleu cheese, $4 each) and chicken carbonara ($8.49).

And for dessert, cinnamon stix, which come with a sweet and gooey dipping frosting ($3.99).

Actually “stix” is kind of a misnomer.

It actually was a large flat pizza-shaped disc. Note: Shape has nothing to do with taste! Other dessert stix are filled with apple, cherry or raspberry.

Westside Pizza’s website boasts its pizza dough is “made fresh daily” using the “best ingredients available” and can be ordered in medium (12-inch, $14.99), large (15-inch, $16.99) and grand (18-inch, $18.99).

But what to pile on your pizza?

Of course there’s the Build Your Own, but you may like what’s suggested.

The one that caught my eye was their Death By Pizza loaded with pepperoni, Canadian bacon, sausage, pineapple, beef, mushrooms, olives, onions, green peppers and bacon bits.

The Westside is topped with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, olives, onions and green peppers.

Tropical Heat is piled with pepperoni, sausage, cooked tomatoes, jalapeños and pineapple topped with a special blend of parmesan and basil.

And, there are the self-explanatory versions: Meat Mania, Hawaiian, The Veggie, Garlic Chicken with Alfredo sauce, Chicken Bacon Ranch, BBQ Chicken Pizza and The Gourmet Veggie.

Craving pasta?

There are several to choose from: All sauces are smothered over penne (shaped like a ribbed tube and about the size of your pinkie finger).

There’s marinara ($6.99), Alfredo ($6.99), chicken Alfredo ($7.99) and chicken carbonara ($8.49).

How about an appetizer to go with that?

You get 10 chicken wings covered in Hot & Spicy or Honey BBQ sauce for $5.99. Or, try the Bread Stix ($2.99), Cheese Stix, ($3.99) or Stuft Stix with a topping of your choice plus cheese ($4.99).

As a further enticement, there are deals to be had.

On every Westside Pizza box you’ll find Pizza Points. Cut out the points, save them and when you have enough, there’s a free pizza in your future.

And there are coupons and online specials, too. And when you make an online order, it will itemize your bill. Recently they offered a “Carry-Out Special” (which, wouldn’t have worked for Greg and me the other night!), large 2-item pizza, 2 liter soda and order of bread or cinnamon stix, all for $13.99.

Or their Mega Meal Deal: large 2-item pizza, 2-liter soda, plus two of any of the following: cheese stix, bread stix, dessert stix or salad.

So, if Marty appears at your door some day, seemingly lost, just point him homeward and tell him to order a Westside pizza.

Oh, and don’t forget to let the cat in and tip your delivery person! They always deliver with a smile.
