A year ago Ennisa Albin was in middle school and Julie Pineau was in her home country of France. This coming weekend, the Sequim High School students will be on Washington’s biggest prep gymnastics stage together, along with their teammates from Port Angeles.
A second half rally that saw Sequim go up by two points late faded as Lindbergh hit key free throws down the stretch, giving the host Eagles at 58-49 victory in the opening game of the West Central District tournament Thursday night.
The Pirate men outlasted the Whatcom Orcas 48-47 Wednesday night to move into a fourth-place tie with Everett — their opponent on Saturday — while the Northwest Athletic Conference’s No. 8-ranked Peninsula women overwhelmed the Orcas 79-59 to remain in the hunt for the North Division championship, one game behind Bellevue.
