Sequim’s once-a-month lunch time series returns this September with a familiar face.
Joel Yelland, medical director of the Lower Elwha Health Clinic, performs spirituals and Russian folk songs for the opening of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church’s 24th season of Music Live with Lunch.
The performance starts at noon, Tuesday, Sept. 16, and lasts for 30 minutes with lunch afterward. Both events take place in the Parish Hall, 525 N. Fifth Ave. since the sanctuary is refurbished.
Yelland, who moved to Sequim three years ago, has been active in several groups. He’s studied voice with Linda Grubb and Annaliese von Goerken, sung with the Peninsula Singers and Readers Theater Plus and continues to lead classical vocal recitals.
He also formed the revue duo “Broadway and Bordeaux” with Jaie Livingstone, directs the choir at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and plays percussion with the Sequim City Band and the Port Angeles Symphony.
Some of his program includes the songs “My Lord, What a Morning,” “Katyusha,” “See the Raging Flames Arise” from Handel’s “Joshua,” “Ain’t It Good” from “Children of Eden,” and many more.
Music Live began with Lou and Bill Yandell’s idea as an outreach musical program to the community.
This season’s concerts continue through May 2015 except for December on the third Tuesday of each month at noon. Each concert/lunch is $10 with season tickets $70 for eight concerts. Tickets are available at the concert doors or from the church office 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday-Thursday. For more information, call 683-4862. Vegetarian meals are available.
