The Port Angeles Parks & Recreation Department hosts the April Fools’ Extravaganza youth basketball April 9-10. The tourney has divisions for boys and girls teams in grades 4-12.

Women’s basketball league set to start
The Port Angeles Parks & Recreation Department hosts a women’s basketball league for players ages 16 and older.
The season begins April 10.
Cost is $200 per team plus an individual player fee: $28 for City of Port Angeles residents, $42 for others.
Sign-up forms are available at PA Parks & Recreation office, 308 E. Fourth St. Deadline to register is April 1.

Sailboating classes scheduled in Sequim
The North Olympic Sail and Power Squadron offers a course in sailing that starts March 30 at 1 p.m. at the Sequim Bay Yacht Club Room at John Wayne Marina.
The course teaches basic sailboat designs and nomenclature, rigging and safety from experienced sailors Mike Witkin and Dennis Miller.
The course continues with the physical aspects of sailing forces and techniques, sail applications, marlinespike, helmsmanship and handling of difficult sailing conditions. This is an eight to nine-week course accompanied by an illustrated manual.
Cost for the course is $55 for members of the Power Squadron and $110 for the general public.

Boating course set
The North Olympic Sail and Power Squadron presents America’s Boating Course on Saturday-Sunday, April 2-3, at the Port Angeles Yacht Club, 1305 Marine Drive. The class runs from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. both days.
This course is designed for all boaters and covers boating safety, rules of the road, adverse conditions and emergencies, anchoring, docking, trailering, nautical charts, tides and currents and communications.
Instructors with local knowledge also will review state and federal regulations to prepare students for a Washington Boater Education Card that is required for all boaters younger than 60.
Cost of the course is $45, plus $10 for the Boater Education Card. Six months of free membership in the Power Squadron also is offered as part of the course.
