Once they can shake the nerves, Sequim coach Enid Halewyn says, these Wolves have some bite. Unfortunately, so does the rest of a tough Olympic League.

Sequim fell 2-0 to Klahowya in Silverdale Thursday, giving up a goal in each half, dropping the team’s mark to 0-2-1 in league play.

Bekka Schell scored six minutes in from a Jordan Dixon pass, and Dixon added insurance with a second-half score, as the Wolves were shut out for the first time this season.

"They’re really quick to the ball," Halewyn said of Klahowya’s Eagles. "I don’t want to make excuses, but half my team is sick and (we have) injuries. Klahowya is tough and it’s kind of the same with the (previous) game: we were reacting to more of what they were doing."

On Sept. 16, Sequim and rival Port Angeles played to a 1-1 tie. In Halewyn’s estimation, the Wolves played tentatively in the first half, falling behind after Jessica Madison scored off an Abby Moseley assist just before halftime.

Sequim tied it in the second half with Sunma Agostine’s unassisted goal, her second of the season.

"I liked the fact that we picked up the game in the second half," Halewyn said. "I felt like the girls were playing nervous in the first half."

Sequim finished with 27 shots on goal.

The Wolves saw Anna LaBeaume, one of their top position athletes, in goal after starter Rachel DeWees missed a practice due to an illness.

Sequim was scheduled to play at Kingston Sept. 23 – results were unavailable at press time. The Wolves host Port Townsend Sept. 25 and North Kitsap Sept. 30.
