Grab your picnic basket, a lawn chair and some friends and head over to the Sequim Library for the 2016 “Summertime Music! Outdoor Concert Series.”
This July and August there will be five opportunities to enjoy live music from a diverse lineup of artists, including one all-ages contra dance.
All concerts will begin at 6 p.m. and take place on the library’s outdoor stage.
In cases of inclement weather, concerts will be held indoors at the library, except for the contra dance, which will take place inside the Sequim High School cafeteria (601 N. Sequim Ave.) if conditions are unsuitable for dancing outdoors.
The series kicks off on Friday, July 22, with the electronic beats of Dirty Beat Duo. This groovy duo will stop at nothing to create and perform the most danceable cross-genre, cross-generational electronic dance music known to the planet. Dirty Beat Duo embodies voracious beats and playful, pulsing, positive vibes to unite our community and evolve our spirit.
On Friday, July 29, travel the world with the music of Lobo Del Mar. This band and dance troupe features Celtic music, bagpipes, flamenco, Mexican music, bluegrass, western swing, Polynesian music, Irish step dance and even belly dance!
The Delta Rays next take the stage on Friday, Aug. 5. This four-member group has been playing its eclectic blend of Zydeco, R&B, Irish fiddle, Tex-Mex accordion, gypsy folk and swing around the peninsula for more than 20 years.
On Friday, Aug. 12, Seattle’s Bushwick Book Club will perform “Read & Destroy,” an original piece of music inspired by a variety of different books. The Bushwick Book Club performs with the intent of inspiring literature and music lovers alike.
The 2016 series will wrap up with a fun, all-ages community contra dance on Saturday, Aug. 20. Bring your dancing shoes as caller Sherry Nevins guides you through the steps, with live tunes from master fiddler Rodney Miller and guitarist Alex Sturbaum. In case of inclement weather, the dance will be held indoors at Sequim High School cafeteria, at 601 N. Sequim Av.
